SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Terrier offense was rolling with 16 total hits and each starter collecting at least one knock as the Wofford baseball team dismantled Western Carolina 15-4 in game one of the series Friday night at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers improve to 37-13 overall and 13-3 in the SoCon. The Catamounts drop to 24-25 overall and 8-8 in league play.

Wofford extended its winning streak to seven games with the result, and the home win streak has stretched to 19 games.

Matthew Marchal (5-2) earned the win after starting for the Terriers, tossing 6.0 innings with just a run allowed. He gave up five hits and one walk with five punchouts.
Lucas Mahlstedt,
Luke Stephens and
Mike Eggert each pitched an inning to finish out the game.

Catamount reliever Lucas Hartman (1-2) suffered the loss after surrendering five runs in just one-third of an inning.

All nine of the bats in the Wofford starting lineup secured a base hit, with
Ryan Galanie's four knocks leading the way as he added an RBI.
Nolen Hester and
Brennen Dorighi each tallied two hits and three RBI, and Hester reached twice more via walks to get on base four total times.
Zeb Roos and
Brice Martinez also collected two hits apiece to mark five Terriers with multi-hit outings.
John Dempsey only had one hit, but he was issued three free passes and collected three RBI on the night.
Lawson Hill also received two walks on top of his base hit and RBI.

With their hits, Hill and Galanie extended their hitting streaks to 23 and 15 games, respectively. Their on-base streaks now stretch to 24 and 16, respectively, with Dorighi's now at a whopping 30 games.

The Terriers notched the game's first run in the bottom of the second when
Brice Martinez singled home a run, but a Catamount RBI double in the top of the third leveled the score at 1-1.

Wofford pulled back ahead in the bottom of the third with seven runs and never looked back.
Brennen Dorighi plated two when he singled to left center, and
Jack Renwick's RBI groundout tacked on another. Another RBI groundout, this time from
Nolen Hester, scored a run, and
John Dempsey smoked a double to left center with the bases loaded to plate three. The score stood at 8-1 in favor of Wofford.

Zeb Roos plated a run with a single in the bottom of the fourth, and Hester's single put the Terriers in double figures with a 10-1 advantage.

Hester again brought home a run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch then made the score 12-1.

Western Carolina kept punching when they could, scoring two runs in the seventh. An RBI triple followed by an RBI groundout made the score 12-3.

The Terrier lead extended back out to double-digits in the bottom of the eighth with three more runs.
Lawson Hill's double brought home Hester, and Galanie followed with an RBI double of his own. Dorighi then notched an RBI single for a 15-3 score.

A balk gave Western Carolina a run in the top of the ninth, but the game had long been decided as
Mike Eggert locked down the 15-4 Terrier win.

The Terriers and Catamounts are set to square off in game two of the series tomorrow afternoon at Russell C. King Field. Wofford looks for a series victory with a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
