CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams began the outdoor season on Friday and Saturday at the 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center. Wofford had numerous strong finishes in the competitive meet.
The track events on Friday were highlighted by
Marga Van Der Linde taking third place in the 400-meter hurdles.
Robert Hilsman had a 10.79 for eleventh place in the 100 meters.
Conor Murphy was 14
th in the 400 meters at 49.86 and
Becca Hinds was 15
th in the 10,000 meters at 41:18.96.
On Friday in the field events,
Jake Ross was first in the group B high jump at 1.90 meters.
Pamela Ann Pope was tenth in the group B pole vault at 2.85 meters, while
Presley Worf was eleventh in the long jump at 5.17 meters.
Saturday's track events began with the 4x100 relay, with the Wofford women finishing seventh in 48.75.
Brooke Sayre was tenth in the 800 meters at 2:18.22, while
Madeline McNinch was seventh in the 200 meters at 24.72. The Wofford women were eighth overall in the 4x800 relay and fourth in the 4x400 relay.
In the Saturday field events,
Sebastian LaTorre was sixth in the group B pole vault at 4.15 meters.
Olivia Bagg was 13
th in the group A women's high jump at 1.60 meters, while
Chase Edwards was tenth in the discus at 47.33 meters.
The meet included over 40 teams. Division I schools participating were host Charlotte, Clemson, Davidson, East Tennessee State, Elon, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Liberty, Marshall, Mercer, Morehead State, Queens, Radford, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Wake Forest, Winthrop and Wofford.
The Terriers will travel to Kennesaw State for the Don McGarey Invitational on March 22 and 23.
