SPARTANBURG, S.C. –Wofford College women’s soccer head coach Amy Kiah has announced four student-athletes whom have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Terriers for the 2012 season. Joining the squad are Mary Beth Bleekrode, Kerrie Edmondson, Lucy Etro, and Hannah Garcia.
“We are very excited about signing these four players,” commented head coach Amy Kiah. “We think that they all have the potential to impact our team immediately, and we look forward to adding them to our roster next fall.”
Mary Beth Bleekrode is a midfielder/forward from Alpharetta, Ga., where she has started at Marist School in Atlanta since her freshman year. She has helped lead her squad to three consecutive regional championships, as well as a 4-A state championship in 2009. She is also a part of the UFA 94’ Elite club team, where she has been a team captain for the past seven years. She helped lead the team to three state club championships, two R3PL championships, and two appearances in the regional finals. She also has experience with the Georgia Olympic Development Program (ODP) team, leading her squad to the ODP Region 3 championships in 2009. Bleekrode intends to major in biology while at Wofford.
Kerrie Edmondson comes to Wofford from Augusta, Ga., where she has started each season as a defender at Westminster Schools of Augusta. She has helped lead her team to four consecutive regional championships, as well as a state championship in 2009. She has earned All-Region and All-State honors each of the past three seasons. She has also played for the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy ECNL team, winning two state championships. Edmondson has also lettered in cross country at her school, including a third place finish at the Augusta Prep Invitational in 2009. She plans to study government while at Wofford.
Lucy Etro joins the Terriers from Round Hill, Va., where she has been a starter at Woodgrove High School since her junior year. She started her freshman and sophomore seasons at Loudoun Valley High School. She has led her teams to two district championships and a regional championship, as well as the state semifinals three times. She has earned All-District honorable mention and All-District Second Team honors throughout her career. She is also a part of the SYA FCV Cardinals club team that is ranked second in the state of Virginia and 29th in the nation. Etro also has participated with the Virginia ODP team. She intends to major in biology while at Wofford.
Hannah Garcia is a goalkeeper from Alpharetta, Ga., where she is a senior at West Forsyth High School. She has been a part of the UFA 94’ Elite club team, tallying over 40 shutouts throughout her career. She has helped lead her squad to three state club championships, two R3PL championships, and two appearances in the regional finals. She also has experience with the Georgia ODP team. Garcia plans to major in pre-med while at Wofford.
The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to Wofford College and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
