Wofford athletics to help Blue Star Mothers at Oct. 15 football game

Fans encouraged to bring items in support of the military to Gibbs Stadium

Wofford College Athletics and the Blue Star Mothers - Spartanburg Chapter 124 have teamed up to support our military.  Fans are encouraged  to bring the following items to Gibbs Stadium on Saturday, October 15 as part of Military Appreciation Day at Wofford.

Food and snack items
Small food items, pre-packaged, individual serving sizes and non-perishable.
Individual snack foods such as chips, pretzels, crackers
Dried fruit, fruit roll ups, nuts, sunflower seeds, etc.
Gum, LifeSavers, Mints, Blister packed gum preferred
Cereal Bars, Pop Tarts
Beef Jerky
Smaller plastic jars of peanut butter.
Chocolate (can be shipped in winter, not in summer)

Clothing items
Cold weather gloves, socks, hand warmers, cotton socks (boot cut in black, olive green or white)

Personal items
Brushes, combs, hair clips, disposable razors, nail files, small plastic bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion
Sun block
Blistex, Chapstick
Q-Tips
Travel size toothpaste

Additional items
Batteries (AA or AAA)
Pre-paid Military Calling Cards
Cards and letters of support
Small games, playing cards, etc.
Single use disposable cameras
Nerf footballs
Blank greeting cards for birthdays, anniversaries and various holidays.


Please bring all items to the Blue Star Mothers table located on the home side plaza on October 15. Kick-off is set for 1:30 pm.

ALL FANS WHO DONATE to the Blue Star Mothers or the Wofford vs. Furman "Food Fight" canned food drive will be given a coupon good for a free ticket to the Wofford men's basketball home opener on November 13.

FREE TICKETS TO MILITARY: All active duty military, veterans and immediate family can recieve a free ticket to Saturday's game. Please go to the videoboard ticket booth.

MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY
The Wofford Army ROTC and Wofford Sports Marketing have many interactives planned for fans coming to the Miltiary Appreciation Day football game on October 15. 

Here is a list of a few of the displays on-tap:
Lakota helicopter (from SC Army National Guard)
Army Hummer and weapons display
Bradley fighting vehicle (parked along the side of McDowell Street across from TerrierLand)
ROTC children's face painting and obstacle course (Brittain Plaza at the Joe E. Taylor Center)

In addition, the Wofford football coaching staff will wear camo pants for the game as well.

TERRIER TALES READING CELEBRATION DAY
All kids participating in the Terrier Tales Reading Program are reminded that the first "Reading Celebration Game" is October 15 as well.  Bring your completed bookmark to the SCPL Bookmobile located near Gate 3 and TerrierLand and you will recieve your free game ticket and your parents may purchase a discounted game ticket there as well.  Members of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries will be on hand to greet fans as well.  Be sure to take advantage of this great program that rewards kids for reading for enjoyment during the school year.
