Complete 2010 Schedule
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Head coach Corey Helle announced today the 2010 Wofford Terrier volleyball schedule. The slate features 12 home matches and includes four tournaments, including a home tournament for the Terriers.
“We are looking forward to our non-conference schedule to open the season,” commented head coach Corey Helle. “We are especially excited to be hosting the Wofford College Invitational because it will give our fans a chance to see us in action at home before we begin the conference season.”
The Terriers will open the season at the Tiny L. Laster Memorial Tournament, hosted by Hampton University in Hampton, Va., beginning on August 27. Wofford will face Bryant University, UM-Eastern Shore and SC State as well as host Hampton.
The Terriers will travel to a second tournament in DeLand, Fla. on September 3, where they will face Florida Atlantic, Wyoming, Bethune-Cookman and Stetson.
The third tournament of the season, the GWU Runnin’ Bulldog Classic in Boiling Springs, N.C., will see the Terriers take on Weber State, Kennesaw State and host Gardner-Webb before returning home to host the Wofford College Invitational.
The Wofford College Invitational, held September 17-18, marks the first time the Terriers have hosted a tournament since 1993. Wofford will welcome SIU Edwardsville, Stetson and USC Upstate to campus for the two-day tournament.
“Our 2010 schedule is filled with matchups against some great regional teams,” explained Helle. “We look forward to continuing the great rivalry we have built with USC-Upstate and facing Gardner-Webb this year. We also have the chance to take on several new opponents this year, including Wyoming, SIU Edwardsville and Bryant, before jumping into the rigorous SoCon schedule.”
Late September brings a five-game home stand for the Terriers, including the team’s first Southern Conference matchups, as Wofford hosts Georgia Southern on September 24 and Davidson on September 25. The Terriers settle into the league schedule in October, hosting defending conference champion College of Charleston and The Citadel the first weekend of the month and Furman on October 6.
After a quick trip to UNC Greensboro on October 9, the Terriers return home to host Western Carolina, Appalachian State and non-conference opponent ETSU. The team will close October with a five-game road swing, traveling to the far ends of the conference to face Chattanooga on October 23, Samford on October 24, then Georgia Southern and Davidson on October 30 and 31, respectively. The Terriers will end the road streak at nearby Furman on Wednesday, November 3.
The Terriers’ final home match of the regular season will be against Elon on November 6. From there, Wofford will round out the regular season with two final road matches at College of Charleston on November 13 and The Citadel on November 14.
The 2010 Southern Conference tournament will be held November 19-21 in Charleston, S.C. The event, which will be hosted by the College of Charleston, returns to an eight-team format this year after operating under a four-team format in 2009.
