Shane Nichols Joins Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College men’s basketball coach Mike Young has announced that Shane Nichols has joined the coaching staff. Nichols was a three-year letterman for the Terriers and graduated in 2008.

As a senior in 2007-08, Nichols led the team in scoring with 13.5 points per game. His most memorable shot that season was a lay-up with two seconds remaining in the game to defeat Purdue. For his career, he scored 1176 points which ranks 27th all-time at Wofford. He is also in the top five all-time in career three pointers made, three pointers attempted and three point field goal percentage.

A native of Radford, Virginia, Nichols spent one season at St. Peter’s before joining the Terriers in the 2004-05 season. After sitting out one year, he played three seasons at Wofford and started 76 of 82 games played.

Nichols replaces Jay McAuley, who has joined the coaching staff at Gardner-Webb. The Terriers open the 2010-11 season on November 12 at Minnesota. A full schedule will be announced later this summer.
