Women’s Tennis Comeback Falls Short at Western Carolina

Cullowhee, N.C. – The Wofford women’s tennis team rallied from a 3-0 deficit but was defeated by Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-3. The loss puts the Terriers record at 1-18 on the year and 0-7 in the Southern Conference. Western Carolina improves to 3-10 and 1-6 in the Southern Conference.  
Western Carolina took a 1-0 lead by winning two of three doubles points. Stephanie Cox and Lindsay Larkin defeated Izabella Glinska and Layne Arnold 8-5 at number three doubles for Wofford.
In singles action Western Carolina won the first two matches to take a 3-0 lead. The Terriers fought back achieving victories at number three, four and six singles. Lindsay Larkin cruised to an easy victory in her number six singles match against Emily Turke 6-1, 6-0.
Guinn Garcia defeated Carolina Lainez at number three singles in a tough three set match. Lainez won the first set 6-3 but Garcia came back to win the second 6-4. In the final set Garcia was up 2-1 when Lainez retired. In the final match of the day Stephanie Cox defeated Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz in another three set match. Diaz won the first set 7-5 but Cox battled back winning the second 6-4. The final set was decided over a ten point tie break which Cox won 10-8.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, April 10 when they will host UNC Greensboro in a Southern Conference matchup at the Reeves Tennis Center on the Wofford College campus.
