CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Wofford College rifle team completed the season with the 2009 SEARC Championships on March 7 at the Inouye Hall Marksmanship Center on the campus of The Citadel. Jordan Rawl led the team with a ninth place finish overall.
Wofford scored a total of 2182 points in SEARC scoring to place fifth out of eight teams. In NCAA scoring, the Terriers posted a score of 2167 to finish sixth.
“This is by far the best team we have had,” said coach Randy Hall. “We had to overcome a lot of obstacles this season, including the loss of practice space due to the renovation of the Taylor Center. I am very proud of what we accomplished.”
Jordan Rawl led the team with a 568, which was ninth out of 49 shooters. Stephen Bryant fired a 546, while senior Beth Mellette finished her career with a 537, her second-highest score ever. Cameron Ledbetter competed as an individual and his career-best score of 531 counted in SEARC scoring. Whitney McJunkin had a 516, which counted for NCAA scoring only.
Overall, NC State led the SEARC scoring with a 2295, followed by The Citadel at 2261 and Birmingham Southern at 2233. North Georgia scored 2217, followed by Wofford at 2182, Clemson at 2178, Georgia Military at 2027 and Augusta State at 1119. Nikita Dees of Birmingham Southern won the individual championship.
In NCAA scoring, NC State led all teams with a 2295, followed by Birmingham Southern at 2227. The Citadel men fired a 2226, with North Georgia at 2217, The Citadel women at 2204 and Wofford at 2167.
