Notes about the Jacksonville State game...
As far as distance, this playoff trip is the closest journey for the Terriers in the FCS postseason. The other FCS playoff road trips have been to James Madison in 2008, Montana in 2007 and Delaware in the 2003 semi-finals. Wofford and JSU have not played since the Division II days, both Gamecock wins in 1990 and '91.
Jacksonville State is located in Jacksonville, Ala. in the northeast quadrant of the state. JSU was founded in 1883 and currently has over 9,000 students. Here's a fun fact... Randy Owen, lead singer of the country music group "Alabama," is an at-large member of the JSU Board of Trustees.
On the field, Jacksonville State is probably best known this season as the team that beat Ole Miss 49-48 to begin the year in double overtime. JSU dedicated the renovated Burgess-Snow Field for the 2010 home opener the following week against Chattanooga in front of over 22,186, the largest crowd to ever witness a Gamecock home game. The Gamecocks rank 2nd in the OVC in scoring offense (33.8) and 5th in scoring defense (25.7). Only one player on the JSU roster is from South Carolina.
This marks the second NCAA postseason event that Wofford has traveled to a city named Jacksonville in 2010. The previous trip was in March when the basketball team played in the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla.
