SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford baseball player Mac Doyle was named to the All-Southern Conference second team in the outfield as selected by the Southern Conference Sports Media Association. It marks the third straight season that Doyle has been honored as All-Southern Conference.
Doyle, a senior from Conway, South Carolina, led the team with a .341 batting average and also led the team with 70 hits, ten doubles, 13 home runs, and 47 RBIs. Among conference leaders, he is fourth in slugging percentage, eighth in on base percentage, sixth in RBIs, fifth in home runs, and sixth in total bases.
He earned All-SoCon honors in 2010 and 2011 at the designated hitter spot. He is only the second player in school history to earn All-SoCon honors in three seasons, joining shortstop Michael Gilmartin (2007-09). For his career at Wofford, Doyle leaves as the all-time leader in hits, RBIs, and total bases, and is fourth in home runs and career games played.
College of Charleston center fielder Marty Gantt was voted as the Player of the Year by the Southern Conference Sports Media Association while Appalachian State right-hander Ryan Arrowood earned Pitcher of the Year accolades to highlight the awards.
Also earning superlative awards were Georgia Southern catcher Chase Griffin as the league’s Freshman of the Year, and Appalachian State head coach Chris Pollard who was voted by the media as the Coach of the Year. Appalachian State, College of Charleston and Samford each had six players selected to the all-conference teams, including four first-team choices for the Mountaineers.
