Tommy Irvin Agrees With Arizona Cardinals

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Arizona Cardinals have reached a rookie free agent agreement with former Wofford football player Tommy Irvin. Irvin led the Terriers in tackles in 2009 and 2010.

Irvin, from Davidson, N.C., led the team with four interceptions and tied for the team lead with 65 tackles. He was a key part of the Terrier defense that ranked first in the SoCon in pass defense and total defense. Irvin was named to the All-Southern Conference second team by both the media and coaches in 2010. He graduated in May with a degree in business economics.

In his career, he had 209 tackles. He added seven career interceptions, 4.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. He was also named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll three times.

The Cardinals will begin training camp Thursday when players officially report to the team's Tempe facility. Players will head to Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University on Friday. Practice begins Saturday afternoon.

This will be the first time since 1961 that at least two former Wofford football players have been in an NFL training camp in the same season. Irvin joins wide receiver Andy Strickland, who spent last season on the practice squad with the Atlanta Falcons.
